Chuck Berry, who with his indelible guitar licks, brash self-confidence and memorable songs about cars, girls and wild dance parties did as much as anyone to define rock ’n’ roll’s potential and attitude in its early years, died on Saturday at his home near Wentzville, Mo. He was 90.

Grew up listening and still do till this day. Nothing more to add. His music says it all.

Forgot to cite the source of that quote. Anyhow, it's from the New York Times, written by Jon Pareles.

He lived a long life, and made a hell of an impact musically. As long as he felt fulfilled at the end, all is well. No idea about him or his music, though I'm sure I've heard songs of his over the years.

You guys have never heard his song "My Ding A Ling?" You should. It's a goody.

Songs on oldies albums are johnny be good, rock and roll music, roll over bethoven, and sweet little sixteen. He had quite an impact on the older rock groups beatles and rolling stones.

"Drop the coin right into the slot
You gotta hear something that's really hot
With the one you love you're making romance
All day long you been wanting to dance
Feeling the music from head to toe
'Round and round and round you go."
-School Days

One of my favorites. I have always enjoyed how he rolls the r in "drop."

What a great, influential musician! I think I'll download some Chuck Berry via Apple Music later.
I was a child of the 80s, Guns 'N' Roses Appetite for Destruction came out in 1987 -- my sophmore year in high school. So in my younger days, I called Chuck Berry "Old guy music". Things change as you get older, fatter, and hopefully wiser.

Yes, enjoyed Chuck Berry when He was first popular when I was a pre-teen and still enjoy his music today. May he rest in peace.

I have a feeling he could light up a stage as well.

Chuck was a legend. To hell with Elvis.

I disagree with you Imprecator. He was a terrible actor, but I think he definitely had talent for singing. Was really good-looking too.

In the above post, I was referring to Elvis. Sometimes I'm a little scatter brained. Lol.

"You can fool some of the people part of the time
In a rock and roll song,
Fifty-million Elvis Presley fans
Can't be all wrong."

Lol Rask, John Pryne is another funny guy. I'm not into Country, but ... see the John Pryne song: "Jesus, The Miss'n Years."
